Tranquil Abdet - Costa Blanca, Spain

Tranquil Abdet - Costa Blanca, Spain
17 May 2013

Costa Blanca maybe famous for its award winning blue flag beaches with its Mediterranean climate, but if you are not a beach person, the Costa Blanca also has rugged mountains, a wonderful landscape of pinnacle ridges, enormous crags and shady pines were you can go for scenic walks, cycle or if you are more adventurous mountain climbing.

Who would believe that within 1 hour and 30 minutes drive you would be in the mountains? But it is true, north of Alicante in the Guadalest Valley are many little villages nestled in the mountains. The village we visited for a short stay was named Abdet. Situtated in the heart of the Costa Blanca mountains, Abdet is a peaceful village with a little over than 100 residents. Abdet boasts four streets each with breathtaking views of the surrounding valley, mountains and Guadalest itself.

The road into Abdet takes you through the main street with townhouses hugging onto the tight road. In the next street is the small Plaza de San Vicente Ferrer in the centre of the village along with the church of San Vicente Ferrer. Abdet has two bars, both offering beautiful mountain views. Sitting outside the bar on the road into Adbet, we enjoyed the fresh dusk air and the view of Guadalest with the mist settling around it. Abdet’s bar/restaurant in the Plaza boasts a balcony with spectacular, uninterrupted views of Guadalest and its reservoir. Looking around you can see homes nestled into the mountains and its many walking paths.

There is so much to see and do all on your doorstep, whether you are a walker, cyclist or mountain climber, the surrounding area of Abdet has it all. In just a 15 minute walk from the village we were in a canyon, the Barranco de Meli, watching the clear water rush down the mountain into the Guadalest reservoir. There is also a pool of water perfect for bathing, but at this time of the year it was too cold to take a dip. On the walk back to the village we were treated to a great variety of flowers which lined the track and took us past an old wash house, which could still be used today.

Abdet is a beautiful, peaceful village, its residents are friendly and love to talk about their town, this is truly Spanish living.
