El Raso

El Raso
3 Nov 2017

El Raso is a beautiful development with wide Palm tree lined avenues and lots of green areas, it is surrounded by orange and lemon groves and the fragrance of the blossom in spring is wonderful.

The development leads down towards the La Mata lake and nature reserve offering horse riding and mountain bike trails, there are resident Flamingos and all types of migratory birds. On El Raso there is a mini-market shop selling fresh bread, English newspapers etc daily, bars, restaurants, pharmacy and a local bus service into the nearby sea side town of Guardamar Del Segura which is only ten minutes away.

Every Sunday there is an exceptionally large market, called "lemon tree market" that is adjacent to the development. All the locals use this market for their fresh fruit and vegetables, usually direct from the farmers, as well as a large selection of other goods.

Guardamar is a picturesque old Spanish town with stunning blue flag beaches and a beach front promenade lined with cafes offering beautiful sea views. There are miles of Pine and Palm tree covered sand dunes on this stretch of unspoiled coast line and in 1900 a large reforestation project was carried out to stabilize the dunes and to protect the town creating the Alfonso XIII nature reserve and the beautiful Queen Sofia park and gardens. At the mouth of the river Segura is the marina that combines local fishing boats with luxury yacht births and all types of boat trips are available. For shopping Guardamar has everything from shoes made locally to large supermarkets, there is also a weekly farmers market and in the summer an evening street market. Gastronomy in Guardamar offers the best of Valencia and Mediterranean cuisine from Tapas bars to excellent fish restaurants all accompanied by the inexpensive local wines.
